I was so excited today when I found out there was a new Facebook shark emoticon! I don’t know if you have been following the developments with Facebook chat smileys, but they didn’t really supply any documentation with the Facebook chat software, so whenever they release a new Facebook emoticon it’s usually found by trial and error!

Facebook shark emoticon

So I was playing around with my keyboard trying to make some special faces on Facebook chat (I really like cute eyes like ^^ ) and I did one too many and found the shark smiley! Pretty cool huh? My girlfriend (I was chatting with her at the time) was really impressed with it. She said it reminded her of the Jaws emoticon for Facebook (I explained to her that it must be the shark emoticon for MSN and not Facebook, but she just laughed).

Anyway I’m going to play with the new Facebook shark emoticon now!

It’s hard to choose a favourite chat smiley, because each one displays a different emotion. The winking smiley, for example, really tells someone that you’re trying to be cheeky (or that you’r enot being serious when you say something). It can also mean that you want them to notice you (maybe in a sexual way?) too.

The sunglasses or ‘cool’ emoticon is unique, because it can tell people that either you are feeling good, or they are looking good. I’m not convinced which one is the default meaning for the cool smiley, but I tend to use it infrequently so i think that it probably means something special.

Finally, my favourite is the wide smile smiley! On MSN the wide smile is :D and it has become my ‘default’ smile. In fact, the normal smiley on MSN and Yahoo Chat is kind of weak compared to the big mouth guy. I only ever use the small mouth smiley if I want the person to think that I am smiling but NOT very enthusiastic! Weird huh? I’ll check in more later on and talk about my other favourite chat smileys!
